Light vanquishes darkness
But sometimes darkness itself casts the light
A black coal
Gives off an ember glow
Not only does it give light
It creates warmth on a cold winter night
The star-studded pitch-black night
Illuminates a spectacular light
Not only does it give the traveler sight
It uplifts a man, placing into perspective his plight
A man whose life is lost in the fog of the dark
Can emanate from his depths spark after spark
As long as he walks the earth and lives
He has within him something profound to give
So not all light comes from something bright
Sometimes darkness itself shines a blinding light
