The Flaw in Love

Depression is the flaw in love and the price we must pay when we love. Part of living on our planet is the temporal, temporary nature of things. We love others, but with time everyone will be gone, and when they leave, we will miss them. We understand, accept, adapt and move on, but if it was truly love, we don’t move on until we bruise ourselves with hurt. For there is no love without the anticipation of loss, but it is the inevitably of loss that creates the intensity of the love.

The essence of love is to appreciate the essence of the one we love, and one cannot appreciate the essence of another without knowing we will lose them. It is true we don’t know what we have till we lose it, but it is more true we cannot appreciate what we have if we don’t know it can be lost. So it goes, that depression can seep in with the certainty that we will lose everything around us, but it is the certainty of our loss that gives us the ability love everyone around us.
